The MICHELIN Guide Lisbon 2026 is out, and the city's dining scene has never looked stronger. As someone who's spent three years in the Guide myself, I know what it takes to earn that recognition—and I know which restaurants genuinely deserve the praise.

This is the complete list: every starred kitchen, every Bib Gourmand bargain, and the Guide Selected gems that are flying under the radar. I've eaten at most of them. I'll tell you what's worth your money and what's overhyped.

Two-Star Restaurants: Lisbon's Elite

Three restaurants in Lisbon hold Two Stars. These are the heavy hitters—international destinations that draw food travelers from across the globe. Expect to pay €200+ per person for the full experience, potentially more with wine pairing.

Belcanto

★★ Largo de São Carlos 10, Chiado

José Avillez's flagship. Portuguese tradition through a modern lens. The "Garden of the Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs" is their signature dish for a reason. Consistently ranked among the world's top 50 restaurants. Book months ahead.

Alma

★★ Rua da Anchieta 15, Chiado

Henrique Sá Pessoa's ode to Portuguese ingredients. Less theatrical than Belcanto, more focused on pure flavour. The Costa Açores tuna and Iberian pork neck are standouts. The tasting room upstairs is worth the upgrade.

Cura

★★ Verride Palácio de Santa Catarina, Bairro Alto

Pedro Pena Bastos is doing some of the most personal cooking in Lisbon. Each dish tells a story, often rooted in Portuguese tradition but expressed through unexpected techniques. The space itself—a palace with panoramic views—adds to the drama.

One-Star Restaurants: Exceptional Quality

Twenty-three One-Star restaurants make up the backbone of Lisbon's fine dining scene. These kitchens are executing at an extremely high level, with prices typically ranging from €120-€180 for tasting menus.

Some highlights worth the trip:

Bib Gourmand: Exceptional Value

The Bib Gourmand recognises restaurants offering outstanding food at moderate prices. In Lisbon, that means quality meals under €45. These are often where chefs eat on their nights off—places that prioritise flavour over ceremony.

Notable Bibs to bookmark:

MICHELIN Guide Selected: The Hidden Gems

This is where I'm most excited—and it's not just because Downunder has held this recognition for three consecutive years. The Guide Selected category (formerly the Plate) recognises restaurants that meet rigorous quality standards but haven't yet earned a star or Bib.

These are often the most interesting places to eat. Lower prices than starred restaurants, less media hype, more room for chefs to experiment. Some Guide Selected kitchens are cooking as well as One-Star venues—they just haven't hit the inspectors' radar or prefer to stay under the star-chasing pressure.

Guide Selected 2024, 2025 & 2026 · Rua dos Industriais 21, Santos

Australian-Asian fusion in a format that's genuinely different from anything else in the MICHELIN Guide Lisbon 2026. Kangaroo tartar with truffled caviar. 36-hour pork belly with lime caramel. The tasting menus run €70-€85—less than half what you'll pay at a starred restaurant, with execution that earned us the Guide's attention.

I'm not saying we're underrated. I'm saying the starred list hasn't caught up to what we're doing.

What's New in the 2026 Guide

The 2026 edition brought a few notable changes. A couple of new One-Star entries, some promotions from the Bib list, and a continued expansion beyond the historic centre into neighbourhoods like Campo de Ourique and Estrela.

Lisbon's culinary reputation keeps growing. When I first arrived here from Australia, the Guide was thin. Now it's dense with talent, and inspectors are looking everywhere—not just the obvious fine dining rooms.

How to Navigate the List

For a special occasion: Book Alma or Cura. Both offer experiences that rival anything in London or Paris. Belcanto if you can get a table—it's the city's most famous kitchen for good reason.

For the best value: Seek out the Bib Gourmand list. Ramiro for seafood, Pizzaria Luzzo for pizza, or venture to a Guide Selected restaurant like Downunder where the tasting menu is half the price of a starred equivalent.

For something different: The MICHELIN Guide Lisbon 2026 includes more international cuisine than ever. Japanese, Peruvian, Nepalese, Brazilian—inspectors are finally recognising that Lisbon's food scene extends beyond Portuguese borders.

The full list is available on the official MICHELIN Guide app and website. But start here—I've spent years eating my way through this city, and these are the places that actually deliver on their reputation.
