Monday nights separate tourists from people who know how dining in Lisbon actually works.
Most visitors chase weekend tables - fighting crowds, rushing service, and wondering if the hype was worth it. Meanwhile, Monday night in Lisbon offers the same menu, the same kitchen, and significantly better attention.
On 18 August, you have a choice: Start your week with average takeout, or book a proper table where the kitchen actually has time to focus on what you're eating.
Why Monday Night Works in Lisbon
The restaurant doesn't change on Monday. Same produce. Same team. Same technique.
What changes is the pace. Instead of turning tables twice in an evening, we get to actually cook for you. Instead of managing 60 covers simultaneously, we're working with 25-30.
That means:
- ▸Better plating - the kitchen has time to get details right
- ▸Proper pacing - courses arrive when you're ready, not when the system says
- ▸Personalized service - staff remember your name, your preferences, your wine glass
- ▸Room to breathe - dining room feels like you're there for dinner, not a conveyor belt
If you're in Lisbon for quality, not crowds, Monday is your night.

5-course tasting menu €70 | 7-course €85
What to Expect at Downunder on Monday Night
We're open Monday through Saturday, 19:00-23:00. Monday nights are reliably steady - not empty, not slammed.
The tasting menus don't change based on the day. 5-course is €70, 7-course is €85. Wine pairing adds €45 or €55 depending on selection. Australian-Asian fusion built around seasonal Portuguese ingredients.
What does change is the atmosphere. Saturday feels like an event. Monday feels like you're here for the food, not the scene - which is exactly the point.
The kitchen runs cleaner on Mondays. After the weekend rush, we're back to precision - tighter plating, more controlled timing, dishes leaving the pass only when they're perfect.
How Monday Compares to the Rest of the Week
Tuesday through Thursday follows the same pattern as Monday - quieter service, better focus, same quality kitchen.
Friday starts ramping up. Not packed, but you feel the energy shift toward weekend mode.
Saturday is peak. Full dining room, two seatings, everything moving fast. It's still excellent food, but you're sharing the kitchen's attention with 50-60 other diners.
Sunday we're closed. Most restaurants in Lisbon are - and the ones that aren't usually aren't worth the effort.
If you want the best version of what we do, Monday through Thursday is when you get it.
Booking for Monday 18 August
Tables are available, but Monday doesn't mean walk-ins are guaranteed. We still book out preferred times - 20:00-21:00 fills first, even on weeknights.
Book through TheFork to lock in your table. Earlier slots (19:00-19:30) and later slots (21:30-22:00) have more availability, but all times get the same kitchen attention.
If you're planning dinner for Monday 18 August, book it now. Monday might be quieter than Saturday, but the best tables still go to people who plan ahead.
